Is it possible that Super-computers with artificial intelligence can take better care of you than your Doctor?
IBM Watson has partnered with Celgene to better track negative drug side effects and IBM is applying its cognitive computing AI technology to recommend cancer treatment in rural areas in the U.S., India, and China. For example, IBM Watson could read a patient’s electronic medical records, analyse imagery of cancer, and even look at gene sequencing of the tumor to figure out the optimal treatment plan for a particular person.

The IBM Watson programs are able to instantly scan the world’s medical literature data for making a diagnosis and treatment plan, so in the future, a nurse or tech may be able to do a more detailed evaluation than even a team of doctors. And coupled with advanced MRI, CT and PET scans, view the inner body in mind-boggling ways and even treating cancers and other issues at the microscopic level. This will turn the medical profession on its ear.

Advancements in science have not missed out on medicine and recent innovations have even seen surgeons remotely operate on patients in theatre in a different country via robotic arms and HD video screen!

Having started my career as a Combat Medical Technician in the British Army, (A copy of my book, Battlefield2Boardroom, can be found here) I’ve seen first-hand the incredible progress we’ve seen in field medicine, where technology has played a large part in life-saving technology, from blood clotting gel, to complete immobilisation stretchers made from polystyrene!

You may question what these articles have to do with business development, however I think it’s crucial that we stop for a moment or two and take a deep look at whats happening elsewhere in the world, in other industries, other fields of study to understand WHAT is happening in our world right now, and understand more in-depth the contribution we are making to our lives, our communities our civilisation.

We may only be selling widgets, however, WHO are using those widgets and for what?  What purpose do we serve, not only our own future aspirations but the greater impact on humankind? You see cash might be king, but the impact we have on others it’s a measure far greater than pounds and pence.  Leaving a legacy as the man that, or the women who shall live long after money has been replaced with a bitcoin reader in your right arm!
